Manager – Chemicals Perm, Carl has joined Spencer Ogden to progress his career, but also share his ability to develop talent and lead other people to success – something he takes great pride in. With 10 years’ recruitment experience, he shares his career highlights and why he chose Spencer Ogden.

Why did you choose Spencer Ogden?

Spencer Ogden is a well-known and reputable business within the industry that’s gone from strength to strength and has some really exciting growth plans. I took into consideration my previous experience and it made complete sense to join Spencer Ogden, as it is a business where I had an opportunity to make a real difference.

The business has a winning culture, and the access to resource, technology and operational support that’s is of a very high standard. It is great to be part of a global business with a clear vision & strong support function. Something that recruiters & senior managers can really take for granted!

Describe your previous recruitment experience?

I have been working in recruitment for 10 years, ever since I graduated. My early career was working in a global business, but working with management to build an Oil & Gas brand – one that became a market leader within its space.

My first goal was to bill and compete and I was lucky enough to win ‘Rookie of the Year’ with the help of a great manager. Thereafter, career progression & management was my main priority and I worked tirelessly to get myself to management level leading teams of consultants and team leaders.

I’ve also worked for a grass roots start-up and enjoyed the buzz and excitement of winning business and building a company - getting involved in training & development, operations, process improvement and client strategy & development.

Describe your professional achievements to date?

‘Rookie of the Year’ aside, I went to win a number of other awards / incentives and also lead a number of graduates to achieving ‘Rookie of the Year’ – something that I took more satisfaction in that winning it myself. Throughout my career in recruitment I have been a consistent top biller, but taken more pride in managing teams and training staff to achieve their own successes.

Recruitment is known for the global incentive trips that they reward their staff with and I am lucky enough to say that I have attended a few to places Ibiza, Thailand, Alp d’Huez, Marrakesh, Lisbon and Seville and a number of Michelin star restaurants.

I pride myself on my collaborative approach and ability to develop talent, which has been recognised at previous companies and I will continue to do so at Spencer Ogden.

What value do you hope to bring to your team/Spencer Ogden?

I plan to use the experience that I have gained throughout my career to develop my team and help them individually achieve success and in the process, also create tomorrows leaders – which will in turn allow me to step up.

I’m a strong believer in process and the power of good quality data & MI to help aid evidence based decisions – my old boss use to say that ‘good process can make the ordinary, extraordinary’. Something I truly believe.
